• “Inertia” was born in Warrington, Cheshire in 1982. He lived on Birchwood estate until he was 8 years old when he moved to Silverdale, a small village just north of Lancaster, Lancashire.

• He attended local primary school and went on to attend Lancaster Grammar until he was 15, at which point he was expelled for being far too rebellious for the schools strict, authoritarian style!

• During this period he started frequenting local events such as outdoor raves, Drum and Bass nights and general “mash-up” kind of affairs. With a growing interest in the Jungle/Drum and Bass scene Inertia started “bedroom MC’ing” over “Dreamscape” and “One Nation” tape packs.

• He enrolled on a Music Technology course in 1999. This was the defining moment of Inertia’s journey into sound. He spent a large part of the two year course learning the basics of programmes such as Cubase and Sound forge as well as the fundamentals of music production and engineering. He finished the course with a merited BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology and a place at Leeds Metropolitan University.

• Towards the end of the course Inertia produced two very raw drum and bass tracks featuring LT, a female vocalist who would later join “The Beatphreaks”. He took these tracks to a Lancaster label called “Proper Records” where they took an interest and encouraged him to pursue his musical career.

• It was through Proper Records that he was introduced to “Koma and Bones”, a break beat outfit from Lancaster. With plenty of help and encouragement from the group Inertia slowed the bpm’s down and started making break beat. He had his first release with Proper Records in 2001 at the age of 19, a down-tempo break beat track of the “chilled” sort. A contract offer was briefly suggested by the label, but for various reasons this fell through. During this period Inertia started performing as a drum and bass/break beat, MC/DJ at various local parties and raves.

• In the summer of 2001 Inertia moved to Leeds and started university. It was living here that introduced him to British hip-hop. He had a brief attempt at graffiti before realising he was crap at the visual stuff. He lived in Leeds till he was 21, when he moved back to Lancaster after dropping out of his university course.

• It was moving back home (and a break-up with a girl-friend) that inspired Inertia to start making hip-hop and writing serious, in-depth, lyrics that could express his emotions more effectively than dance music. This led to the formation of “I.T.S” in 2003, with Lancaster MC - “Tiggerstyle”. The idea behind the group was to produce intelligent, real, hip-hop using influences from the local music scene. In the years since its creation the group has grown to include “Trotter”, “Gentle”, “Fordham”, “Spiller” and “Analyst”. Inertia went on to produce tracks for the entire group as well as solo pieces.

• For the next two years Inertia and I.T.S performed regularly at local events, raves and on local radio. The quality of Inertia’s instrumentals and rapping improved to the point where he was asked to join “The Band that Time Forgot” in 2005. This led to performances across the North West, regularly in front of large, open-air crowds.

In the summer of 2005 Inertia attended a short Music/Business course at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

• In the later part of 2005 Inertia finished his debut album “Money ‘N’ Soul”. The start of 2006 sees Inertia pushing the album through gigs and local press with the view to building local support/following. Alongside Morecambe based group “Gang-Green” Inertia has organised various local gigs to show-case the talents that Lancaster and Morecambe has to offer.

• At present Inertia has sold 150 CD albums through local shops and regularly performs at local events/nights. His production never stops and the pad is always getting thicker.

Inertia is now in the process of setting up his own label “Cash Cow Records”, to act as an outlet for local talent.
